Windows 7 / 2008 End of Life

What does this mean?

After January 14th 2020, Microsoft will no longer release system or security updates for Windows 7\2008. This means that any future security vulnerabilities discovered in Windows 7/2008 will not be resolved by Microsoft with a patch or update.

Microsoft made a commitment to provide 10 years of product support for Windows 7 from when it was released on October 22, 2009. When this 10-year period ends, Microsoft will discontinue Windows 7 support and technical assistance / software updates from Windows Updates that help protect your PC. Microsoft strongly recommends that you move to Windows 10 sometime before January 2020 to avoid a situation where you need service or support that is no longer available.

What are my options?

To keep abreast of technology and be compliant with cyber security standards, Titan Networks will help decommission or upgrade all End of Life (EOL) devices.

Whilst you can continue to use your Windows 7/2008 device after the EOL date, your PC will be vulnerable to future hacking/malware attacks that are designed to specifically attack Windows 7/2008 computers.

How do I move from Windows 7 to Windows 10?

There are three main options when it comes to this:

1. Buy a brand new PC/laptop with Windows 10

If the PC is old and running slow, one option would be to buy a brand new PC/laptop that comes with Windows 10 Pro. This would mean you have a fast, modern PC running the latest Windows operating system of which the £165.00 license cost is absorbed by the manufacturer.

Our recommended PC specification includes Windows 10 Professional which costs £405.00 +vat per device including delivery and installation. Laptop prices would be higher depending on requirement.

2. Upgrade PCs with Windows 10 Professional & SSD

Cost per upgrade would be £165.00 for a Windows 10 Pro license and £60.00 for an 240GB SSD where required. Whilst the cheapest option, the alternatives may make this false economy. When it comes to the installation of this, Titan are more than happy to assist you on this matter. Please be sure to either send us an email to info@tns.support or call us on 01619724161.

3. Buy a fully refurbished PC The most cost effective option, is to buy a fully refurbished PC that comes with Windows 10 Pro and has the technical specification which surpasses our minimum recommendation.

The PC is fully inspected upon arrival. Any PC’s with faults are rejected and sent off to be recycled. Once the PC has passed inspection, the mechanical hard drive is removed and destroyed. We upgrade the PC with a brand new Solid State Hard Drive (SSD) and 8GB of ram. We then install Windows 10 Pro and carry out all Windows Updates. Once updated, we run a stress test on the PC for 24hrs to ensure all the components are working correctly. Titan's refurbished PC’s are priced at £250.00 +vat per device including delivery and installation.
